Cat vs. Dog People
I see it come up often: cat people vs. dog people.
Each group feels their animal is better than the other. Dogs are more loyal and friendly. Cats have distinctive personalities and don’t require as much work.
I also believe most people lean further to one side than the other. There is the rare person that adores both cats and dogs but if they had to choose would choose one or other other. If you were to choose, then that’s probably what you are. Not hat this is a catagory anyone needs to be in or anything, just a catagory I prefer to put people in.
Let’s face it though, it’s pretty easy to be a dog person. Well, except for the whole training them and walking them all the time. I mean to bond with a dog is just basically to exist and you have made a friend for life. It’s not really love you need to work for.
With a cat, they get a pretty bad rap of being unfriendly and basically evil. I was thinking recently about how it takes time and attention to bond with a cat. It doesn’t come immediately, it can take years. We had Pilot for a couple years before we really bonded with him. When he was injured and had to have the cone on his head, I happened to be home that week from work and we cuddled all day. He needed extra love and I was there to give it to him. I’ve been his mommy ever since.
I think a dog is more like a baby, it needs you and loves you because you are the one who cares for them. Plus you can’t leave them alone for very long. A cat is more like a teenager, they don’t need as much attention but if you put in a lot of time and love then you’ll have a really close bond.
I’m glad that Manly Man and I are both 100% cat people, I like sharing the love we have for our cats together.
