Being Heard

So I had a few days off and the other day I was watching Oprah. What else does one do on their day off when they have no money? Anyway, there was a commercial about Oprah over the years since her show is ending and one of the things she said was something about “everyone wants to be heard.”

I sat there and realized, that’s why I blog. Yeah, part of it is being creative and part of it is also about expressing my feelings so my husband doesn’t have to listen to me drone on while we’re trying to get to sleep. In some ways my blog itself is a friend of mine, I can spill my guts until the servers go down.

I think we blog because we want others to hear what we have to say and to care about what we say. We want people to admit that they too feel the same way or have been through the same thing. It’s about connecting to the world around you.

Blogging should be about finding a community of people who want to take the time to listen to what you have drifting through your mind at that moment. Blogging should be about reaching out for people all over the world to find someone who gets you at least for that moment.

I don’t know how many times I’ve written about this but whenever I think there is no point in blogging I have to remind myself what is really behind it all. Whenever I think that nobody cares to write out their thoughts and opinions anymore, everyone just tweets instead, I eventually come across a heartfelt post. Whenever I feel like blogging has become all business I remember all the great comments I get, whether it’s 7 comments or 1, and all the great posts I read of others that make me feel connected to something.

I just want to feel connected, for a little bit. I just want to be heard once and a while.

I hear you. However, I’m like to spend my days off watching Netflix.

@Amanda, I’d do that more I think if my computer weren’t so old.

Those are the reasons I blog, particularly the second sentence. Sometimes I feel alone in my perspective or thoughts, so I like to express them to see if they resonate with anyone else and most of the time they do. 🙂

That is so true on so many levels. I’ve never really thought about it that way. I just blog to be heard. Yep.

@Alissa, I can’t see the point otherwise, unless it’s just a boredom thing.

How strange! I am visiting via Shelli’s Sentiments and I just posted about me watching Oprah and something she said struck a cord with me!

Yes, I blog to be heard as well. I want someone to say, “I totally get it.” There is this movie, The Story of Us (great movie btw!) and in it Bruce Willis says the best feeling in the world “to be got.” I think that is why most people do blog, “to be got” by others that understand and I know that I seek out blogs that I can relate to because I have found through my years of being a blog reader, it’s like magic when I stumble across a blog when someone writes something I was never able to put into my own words but discribes perfectly how I feel or felt.

@Janelle, That’s so funny, I love when that happens. I love when another blogger was thinking the same thing and it’s like “yeah!” It really is a beautiful thing, to have someone else get the words out in a way you haven’t been able to. Happens to me all the time.
