On the Horizon

So I have a lot of photography opportunities on the horizon that I’m really excited about.

In June I will be doing a lot of preparing for the wedding in July but I also will be doing a family session with a friend I haven’t seen since college. She only went to our school for the first semester but it was quite the semester. Would she and I even have been friends if I hadn’t been 18 and she was 21 at the time? I guess we’ll never know. What’s amazing is I reconnected with her on Facebook and now I’ll be taking her family pictures.

In July I have my first wedding and I hope to tag along on a fellow photographer’s wedding to get a feel for it behind the scenes, because a LOT goes into shooting a wedding. I also have another family photo session but this woman was a friend of another client I did photos for and even better she has a baby. Just when I think I’m starting to get the hang of taking pictures of kids or couples I then find myself with a baby to capture by camera.

Sometimes I think I’m insane taking on all of this when I have to work and commute but I really love photography so it’s so much more fun than work. I’m always excited to learn more and it seems everyday I learn something new. I feel so lucky to have so many people in the photography business willing to help me out so much and I hope I can pass down some of my knowledge one day to another photographer in the beginning of their journey.

Also, taking on this venture is forcing me to believe in myself, which is something I’ve never quite done before. I have little to no confidence and have almost always taken the road that is the safest. This new direction is not safe and not easy, it’s pushing me further than I ever have before. I think maybe I was waiting for the right time to see what I really had in me.

    I think that the last thing you have to worry about is talent, because Baby, you have it ! You really do need to believe in yourself because just having someone ask you to take their family or wedding pictures is proof enough that others have faith in you.

    This is awesome, & YAY!! We never have time for everything, but something that makes you this happy (being able to make money at it is an extra SCORE) should be a priority. Enjoy!

      @Tug: Totally agree, at this point the only reason I even want to get paid is for the time I spend on it all and you know, because I think the pictures are worth it.

      @Miss Britt: thank you. if i ever come out to Florida, which I want to do but it’s hard as my MIL lives out there, I would love to take pictures of your family, you guys are too cute.
