I read an article recently where a woman was talking about being self aware. Being self aware means you are…well…aware of your self. You can see your faults, even the really unpleasant ones and are always trying to understand who you are on a deeper level.
I find that a lot of people are not self aware. You might point out something that they do, that they might consider a negative thing and they are shocked and dismayed you said such a thing! What are you talking about?? I am not a meat eater, I just occasionally like to have a steak with my wine!
It’s not easy to be self aware, it means being willing to accept qualities about yourself that are unflattering. Myself? I am overly emotional, I have high expectations of others and situations that often leave me disappointed, I can be extremely judgmental, I put too much trust in others sometimes while never really trusting anyone and the one I hate most I am lazy. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
We, as a society, are afraid to acknowledge our faults. Is there something you have heard over and over again by several people but you continue to get defensive about it? Maybe there is a hint of truth to it and you just really don’t want to see it.
I think a big part of my issue is that people always want to blame others for what is going wrong with their lives or when something goes wrong. Some kind of tragedy happens and everyone runs for cover and starts throwing blame at wherever it will stick. Do you really believe you are not to blame or are you just too afraid to be honest?
I honestly feel the world would be a better place if we took the time to be self aware and to take responsibility for our actions.
