My Retro Dilemma

So I am doing the photography for an event this Friday night. The event is 80’s themed and I honestly have nothing 80’s, not one damned thing. If I had it my way I’d go totally punk or I’d go Madonna circa Lucky Star…you know with all the black lace, gloves and lots of hair. Sadly I don’t have the money to put that together.

The only 80’s stuff I’ve ever owned were when I was 10 or younger so none of it fits me, obviously. I’m tempted to just buy leggings and a big t-shirt to cut a hole out of the top of it. However buying a big t-shirt when you are plus size is challenging. I also don’t want to spend much money on an outfit I probably won’t wear again.

I did see a sort of 80’s style skirt or one that could pass for that at Old Navy but I have yet to go out of my way to see about getting it. Given that I will be doing the photography the entire night I also need something comfortable, which means I will be wearing my chucks (they pass for several decades thank you) instead of jelly shoes.

Any ideas? Maybe I could just go Ally Sheedy via The Breakfast Club.

Do you have an old sweat shirt that you can cut the collar off of and the sleeves like flash dance? You can just wear a wife beater underneath and some jeans! Then just crimp your hair or wear a side ponytail!

Skinhead punk should be easy since you can get some items from an Army Navy surplus store, put a few rips in the clothing, and add a few band names in marker. That’s how I handled the 80′s.

@Alissa: I’m not sure I do have an old sweatshirt, that’s loose and comfy at least. grrr…

@Grant: that would be easy, maybe my husband and I can go as Sid & Nancy.
