Under My Skins

I developed a brand new unhealthy obsession over the past week or so. I really got into the show Skins and I’ve been trying really hard not to watch too many videos of it on youtube so it doesn’t spoil the ending.

What I learned, very sadly, was that this show only had these particular characters on for the first 2 seasons and for the 3rd season they got all new characters. Obviously, England does things a bit differently than we do. Plus, it was much more plot oriented and didn’t force anything. Sometimes I wanted more though, I can’t deny it.

There is Tony who is kind of a jerk but he isn’t always that way. There is Sid, my favorite, who has no confidence at first but comes into his own over time. At first I really didn’t like Michelle, then I liked her and then I hated her. I grew to love Chris and Maxxie as the series went on. I can’t forget to mention Anwar, who ended up in the movie Slumdog Millionaire. There is Jal, who I think you don’t really get to appreciate until towards the end of the show, which is too bad. Oh and Cassie, she’s a big ol mess but she’s sweet and weird. They are all weird, that’s why I love them.

As Manly Man says it’s My So Called Life meets Queer as Folk, not in the gay way but in the intense but humorous way, if that makes sense. I’ve heard some don’t like how the teenagers in England are portrayed in this but you know, I figure they are all tossers. Yes, I am lamely now trying to speak in British slang. I also feel too old to be into this show, since it’s about teenagers and I don’t know anyone my age who is into it. This is, perfect timing for my upcoming birthday where I drift further into my thirties.

I have 3 episodes left and then that is it for all these characters, which is just cruel if you ask me. I’m going to go cry now…leave me be…
