Day Thirty

Cats and dogs (and other pets) are not just walking stuffed animals, they have real personalities, quirks and issues. When you take one on you are adding another being to your household that requires attention, love and to be taken care of. I’m not sure how many people really think about this when they adopt one.

The way I see it, it’s a big responsibility and when I adopt a cat I will do whatever I can to my home their home. After all these years with Aurora and Pilot I can’t imagine our family without them.

    I agree that animals are a huge undertaking. My hubby’s grandma adopted a Pomeranian that she got from these girls that had no clue what to do with it. They were bathing it daily and feeding it people food. When asked why they were getting rid of it, “I didn’t realize that it would be this much work.” Yeah, dogs aren’t just little toys to stuff under your arm and cuddle with when you want.

    I adopted a kitten with three legs in November and my other cat is a rescue. Our little family is complete, despite the fact that I want more. But, I don’t think I could properly care for more than two cats.

    @Alissa, awww what a sweet little family. i wish we could adopt another but it wouldn’t be fair, to anyone, we don’t have enough room. if ever we have more room and better finances i think we would.

    I totally agree. That’s how Angelo became part of our family. At our last building, the downstairs neighbors were 2 college kids who had him as a kitten. After they moved, suddenly Angelo (our name for him) began appearing in the courtyard. Although Brian had seem him as a tiny kitten through the neighbors’ open door downstairs, he was bigger (about 10 months) so we didn’t recognize him and thought he was just a neighborhood cat because he was so friendly.

    Most nights he’d hang around the door to our vestibule meowing to be let in. He used to hang out at Angelo’s, a pizza place across the street and we saw him there about 3 weeks later. It was night and because he’s black and white, his fur was dirty and it was obvious he’d been out on his own, so he we literally took him in.

    Yeah, he’s a “dump.” I just can’t believe those idiot kids didn’t even have the sense to at least bring him to a shelter, but now I’m glad they didn’t. It’s been nearly 10 years but the whole thing still pisses me off. Sorry for the diatribe, but I just get so angry when I think about it.
