Wait, was she trying to say that it’s wrong of us to believe that “magical waters cure original sin”? I feel that statement in itself if religious intolerance actually. As we discussed on Twitter, baptism is extremely important to those who follow God and Jesus because the purpose of baptism is to wash away original sin and to restore the individual to an innocent state (although even after baptism, a tendency to sin remains as a result of original sin). To those of us who believe in God and Jesus, baptism is essential for the survival of our souls in the afterlife.

There are so many people who believe in so many other things though and I think they ALL can be spiritual. Baptism doesn’t lead everyone down their spiritual path, obviously!

@Hilly, Ok then I wasn’t imagining it. I always feel like I’m the crazy in the end of the conversations but I’m glad to know I wasn’t the only one who this sounded that way to.

Aside from sounding defensive, it also sounds to me like she’s trying incredibly hard to be spiritual, though she did say it takes work to be spiritual. I can’t define spirituality, it’s just something I feel. And my feeling is that being spiritual shouldn’t require too much work. I think not knowing but wondering what happens to the soul after death, contemplating that, is spiritual. I don’t know if that makes sense.

@Barb, That does make a lot of sense.

Wow. OK, I agree with Hilly on the baptism stuff, and Barb (& you) on spirituality…it shouldn’t take a lot of work. She sounds pretty defensive, and IMHO people get defensive when they’re unsure and being questioned. Again, IMO if she truly believed what she was saying, she would be able to talk about it without getting defensive.

@Tugs, thank you, i decided best to just end the discussion. After that last piece I realized I wasn’t getting anywhere.

I think the part of this that really irks me is where she gets this whole condescending attitude and questions you on what you think happens in the afterlife in such a snarky manner (whether or not our souls wander around, don’t say Nirvana because that’s still afterlife with the haha I will win this argument attitude), like she’s saying “C’mon Robin, this is all so simple and I can’t believe you don’t understand it.” She says she likes to pick people’s brains, but it comes off morelike picking fights.

And then when you ask her the same question she’s suddenly changes her stance to “I don’t know.” Really, if you don’t know then you can’t be a bitch about others not knowing.

@crystal, YES! I swear you guys all save my sanity. This is why she and I have issues with our friendship because she pulls this shit and then turns it on me every single time. I always end up feeling like an idiot or psychotic. Thank you!

Wow, what a nutter. Everything she embraces goes against the CREEDS of the others. Catholicism is NOT tolerant of the Tarot, Buddism, or anything not Catholic. Agnosticism IS spiritual in that it requires thinking about spirituality. Period. AND she is a total hypocrite. It’s like Jews for Hitler. Stupid woman… I pray for her poor kids! :gwen: :jebus:
