I’m Back And Marked For Life

I’m still adjusting to being back, still going through pictures.  I don’t know how many I took but I’m thinking about 5-6 gb at least.  I’m going to give you a real quick rundown of the trip now so I can go back to my pictures, read the guestposts and do some much needed laundry.

  • No, I couldn’t understand the accent.  Manly Man had to translate for me almost entirely.  I was embarassed a few time just staring at people blankly :eyebrow:
  • Manly Man did all the driving, I did none.  We had to choose one person because of insurance reasons.  While I’m more experienced he’s way more calm, so we went with him.
  • Everything was about 44 cents more every dollar I think, therefore we are now dirt poor.
  • The first place we stayed was on the Ring of Kerry off of a tiny little road that only fit one car at a time and looked over the ocean.  It was breathtaking.
  • We nearly died I swear several times on the Ring of Kerry.  It’s a winding road on the side of the biggest cliffs ever and the most narrow roads.  Oh and they drives 100 kilometers on all roads.
  • They use kilometers, not miles.
  • Driving on the left side of the car on the left side of the road, freaky but only because the roads are so damn small.
  • The next town was Adare, a little village that still has houses with thatched roofs.  It was cute but kind of reminded me of a New England town that use the old cuteness to have over-priced shops.
  • Oh, everything is closed on Mondays.  I don’t know why.
  • Dinner is never served until 6pm, no matter how hungry we are or how much my husband cries.
  • After that was Ennis, the place where my parents stayed 30 years ago.  It was such a beautiful place, very old and natural.
  • All breakfasts were fried eggs, gammon (fatty bacon), bangers (hot dog like sausages), brown bread and corn flakes.  They love corn flakes there, my mom says it was the same way 30 years ago.
  • There are few signs that tell you where you need to go, only the bare minimum and sometimes less.  Therefore we got lost a lot.
  • Next was Galway, we stopped a lot on the way so we got there late.  It was right near the Kylemore Abby, we finally had a real bathtub.
  • On the way to the Kylemore Abby we met some travelers from Australia.  I told them I saw Wolf Creek, I’m an idiot
  • Kylemore Abby was amazing.  I tried to take a picture of the nun graveyard and my camera kept going black for no reason.  Weeeeeeeeird.
  • Then we went on to Kingscourt in County Cavan, that was a loooooooong trip.  Too fucking long but of course, beautiful.  At one point we took a wrong turn and ended up where we had started.  I started to cry.  We finally made it to the place though with some great directions from some guys at a pub.
  • I don’t like Guinness, officially.  I do like a lot of other Irish beers, I just think Guinness tastes like a beer milkshake.  I do however like Harp, Smithwicks and a Rebel Red you can only get in a small part of Ireland.
  • A lot of the Irish really look Irish, which I suppose isn’t surprising but I didn’t think it would be so obvious.
  • We were asked a lot about Obama and the economy.
  • The accent is delicious, I loved listening to it.
  • The it was Dublin, on the way we found the Hill of Slane.  It was the best place we’d seen the whole trip.  Wow, only my pictures I hope will do it justice.  Goes back to the 3rd century.  The older the better.
  • The Regency hotel in Ireland was bollocks, they charged me to use a crappy internet and it cost 20 euros to park our car for 2 days.  The tv didn’t work and the place was pretty lame.
  • We found the best pub in Ireland called Murrays.  We got the Irish beef stew and it was soooooooo good.  The meet was so tender and it had potatoes AND mashed potatoes in it!  They also had Irish step dancing as entertainment.
  • All dairy in Ireland was so fresh and so creamy, nothing like here.  I snuck back some buttah.
  • I met a girl named Tara, really cool.  I told her that her accent wasn’t so strong, she looked at me like I was crazy because she didn’t think she had an accent.   I was like “you don’t think you have an accent?  I don’t have an accent” and she was like “you don’t think you have an accent??”
  • Oh and this girl named Tara, she kinda did my tattoo.  It means (to me at least) hope, strength and fortitude but you can see more about it here.  Hope yall had a good week.  I miss Ireland, I could live there, but I’m glad to be home too.

I like the new tattoo. I found a book at Barnes & Noble about symbology and I may use it to help me decide on my new one. My current tattoo is the Eye of Horus. I want another.

I hate to have to point this out, but you both have accents.

@Gwenhwyfar – I still don’t believe that, I think I sound like how they all sound on tv so therefore it’s not a real accent.
