Dexter
I like a lot of shows. I even love a bunch of them. There aren’t many shows that I simply adore and can’t get enough of. I might even go so far to say that the last show I loved as much as Dexter was Six Feet Under. I don’t know if it’s Michael C. Hall, the main character, or just his good luck.
This Showtime original series is about a man named Dexter Morgan who is a single man working as a blood spatter analysis for the Miami police department, spending time with his girlfriend Rita, helping his sister Deb and brutally murdering people in his spare time. How can you not love him?
To explain a little while he does have a need to cut people up he only does so with those he feels somehow didn’t get the justice they deserved, so he takes it into his own hands. While he doesn’t feel the urge to have a private life he has a relationship with Rita in order to look normal to everyone else but soon begins to actually enjoy her company
I initially read both of the Dexter books and I liked them enough. They were fun but the series blows the book out of the water. The series brings so many more dimentions to the story and especially Dexter. It is an art to make a serial killer lovable but they do it beautifully but then maybe it’s just me.
While the show is obviously dark it also is very touching and quirky. The only other show that comes close to being as suspenseful as this is CSI Las Vegas and even that wasn’t quite as intense. I’ve always been a sucker for background stories and getting deep within the characters.
That’s really why I love this show, it somehow has heart even while it’s slashing it.
