The Idol Cult

I think for the people who watch American Idol there must be some kind of brainwashing going on because they will defend the entire show to the bone. It’s unreal how intense people are about this show.

I guess Jennifer Hudson made some negative comment about the show and I listed to 2 separate radio stations this morning condemn her for making such a statement with all the show brought her. Ok, so I can see why people are pissed off since Hudson probably wouldn’t be much without Idol but let’s bring it down a notch mmkay?

To be realistic the show probably isn’t the healthiest thing for young people and I’m guessing most of us don’t really know what goes on behind the scenes. A reality show isn’t just about the competitors/judges but there are also the nasty producers.

Most reality shows are brutal from what I can tell and the producers are there to play everyone like marionettes but that’s the business of television. Do you really think reality tv is as simple as just letting these people do whatever they feel? Not likely.

So while everything appears to be all fun from the viewers standpoint let’s keep in mind how harsh the entertainment business is and that it’s so much more than just a show. It’s about sponsors, careers, images and publicity…the entertainment is not the number one priority.

I watch the show and enjoy it but I agree… there is always more to the show then what they are showing us viewers… It is intertainment people shouldn’t take what others say about it that serious…

If we were to see everything that goes on behind the sceen then we would see everyone that comes through the auditions… 12,000 people on tv would take along time. They have to be screening people and taking in some of the really good ones and some of the really “crazy” ones… just so that we can watch Simon call them names or make them feel bad with phrases such as, “That has to have been the worst audition that we have heard all day” or “What the hell was that?” and lastly and one of my fav. (he says it at least once on every show) “That was just Horrific!”

Not to get too far off the subject but seriously who the Heck is telling some of these people that they can sing? I have never heard so many bad singers ever! It has to be something that their mommies told them was cute at the age of 2 or 3 and in their warped little minds they thought that they would be the next Big thing… :banghead:

Have they ever heard the saying “He has a face only a mother could love.” I think that it goes for talent as well….

As for the show as long as we all remember that it is a show that has to make ratings and any publisity is good publisity… then they can see this maybe something that they asked her to say to promote the show…

Think of all of the times one of the former Idols have said something about the show that turned out to not be true… How many times has Kelly Clarkson said she didnt want the show to use her songs on the show but they always use them and she always says.. “I never said that, I would not be where i am today with out idol….”

I guess what i am saying “Get over it people…leave Jennifer alone. She probably didn’t even say it, or it was taken out of context, or even maybe the show paid her to say something… you never really know….

Joefish – About the same for me.

Gemini – Try having an opinion for once :poke:

I just think it’s funny how people will defend the show so strongly :dazed:

ps. I have a feeling most of the  ones are just that…

I like it but I am not a fanatic about it. Cults should be limited to shows like Seinfeld and Buffy.

That is how I feel, dammit.
