Four Years Ago

While February 14th is the day Erik and I really became a couple today was the first day we met exactly 4 years ago. Four years! I was 24 years old when I met him and I had no idea how much my life would change because of that day.

Gemini was having a holiday party that night and I showed up with my friend PT. I remember Gemini telling me before I got there that her BIL had finally moved out of his house and was staying with them. She was so excited for me to meet him and I was definitely curious.

The moment I walked in the door Gemini dragged me across her apartment to the sun porch to introduce me to Erik. I still vividly remember the moment I met him I was surprised at how cute he was. I figured he’d be some old-father-looking-guy but he had the warmest eyes and the sweetest smile. I specifically remember thinking to myself “what the fuck is wrong with you? You can’t like him!”

I did notice quickly how quiet he was and that he seemed to be off in his own world. Most of the night he spent listening to his brother’s cd collection on the floor of the living room so at one point I sat on the couch and started up a conversation with him. I soon found out that every single movie I mentioned he hadn’t seen and decided right then and there I had to make sure he saw those movies asap.

That’s about all that I remember of that night but it’s amazing to think back to that as the beginning of the best part of my life. Even Gemini’s sister had noticed something between us when even I didn’t even realize anything had really started.

It’s so true that life happens when you stop making plans, because I certainly wasn’t planning him.

On the way out the door this morning as I brought up that today was 4 years from when we met he said to me “You saved my life. You made my life” and trust me, he’s done the very same for me.
