Blogging Breaks

I’ve seen a few fellow bloggers take “blogging breaks” because of maybe something going on in their personal lives or whatever it is. I can empathize being overwhelmed by life and wanting to just hide away for a bit. The only problem for me is, my blog is my outlet and if I didn’t regularly write in it I may go insane.

Maybe my blog is a crutch in order to avoid real life and deal with the real issues I face everyday. Maybe my blog is my daily release like to others it might be smoking or sex. Maybe I should just turn off my computer and go have sex :wink:

Most mornings I’m really excited to post a new quote and a new article. Every day I am so excited to see the thoughtful or just humorous responses I get. When my gmail notifier pops up with a message saying I have a new comment I :cheesy: and quickly open it up.

I wonder how many times just blogging has helped people through tough situations, I know mine (especially the commenters) have helped me more times than I can ever say. I wonder if more people blogged if there would be no more war and we could fix the Ozone.
For me, I think if I need to take a break it should be from something like television or work. I should though close down my laptop more often and take a walk or talk to a friend. It’s all about finding a medium and doing what you need to do to make things work.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, if I ever do take a break you might want to check if I’m either in a straight jacket or dead :twitchy:

    :D I don’t think it would work in reverse, though. I can go for weeks at a time without blogging, either because I’ve got too much going on, or nothing at all going on.

    There is more drama in the blog world then I’ve ever experienced in my real life. People don’t get pissed at me when I say I hate 800×600 resolution…until I say it on my blog and everyone loses their minds. Heh.

    I have read some psychology that says that watching television is a passive activity, but that reading is an active thing. They make a good case and I believe them. So to me TV is much more escapist than blog reading. And posting is not only active, but it is also creative self expression. What could possibly be wrong with creative self expression? Blog on. :)

    Blog therapy, I believe in it! Though I would like to believe the world would be a better place if everyone blogged, I just don’t think it would be true. There will always be people who use it as a forum to spread their hatespew. I won’t name names or provide links to give these dumbasses any more exposure than they already do, but they certainly exist.

    But for people like us, I agree, blogging is a wonderful outlet for release and communication.

    Blogging got me through my last bout of depression and it helped me finalize my decision to go through with the divorce and start school again.

    I love my blogging buddies! They have never let me down. Even my archives help me. I’ll go back and read things that I previously wrote and I will see things in a different light.

    Gary – Very good point.

    GDG – I definitely know a few jackasses in the blogging world…I guess they are in everything. There are always the good and the bad. I think it’s a really great thing when people don’t use it in a negative way.

    Denise – That’s great…it’s helped me so many times. I still doubt myself and hold back in fear I will be judged but I’ve been judged SO many times it’s something I’m working on.

    Heather – I should read my archives more.

    My husband has contributor status, so in case I am hospitalized, he can write a post to let people know I haven’t just disappeared off the face of the earth.

    Like Denise, I keep my archives because it’s a good indication of how far I’ve come since I was steeped in depression. That isn’t to say I’m stable, but things have been much worse for me in the past than they are now. And like she said, it’s nice to see those same situations in a different light.

    When I did have to take a hiatus this past spring/summer, so many people were incredibly supportive. It was such a great thing to experience from my blogger friends.
