The Abandoned House
Again, more drama in our neighborhood…I don’t even need to watch General Hospital anymore
Abandoned houses have always intrigued me because I’m curious how someone could just abandon a house and that it seems like something tragic must have happened. I used to drive by a house on the way to work that had spray painted red x’s on the boarded up windows and the whole back part of the house had collapsed from a fire. That house has been torn down and they’ll probably build something else there eventually.
The house I am talking about right now is the one only a few houses down from us and we were told about it by our informative neighbors. I had always thought it was just an overgrown green house but by golly it was a place someone actually used to live in.
After our walk along the trail on Sunday we decided to finally check out this mysterious house that we’d wondered about all this time. To get to the house you had to wade through a lot of tall grass and weeds.
We noticed 2 old cars, a boat and what appeared to be a shed that is so overgown that they might as well just be planters. We peaked in the door to the house and it was a pretty strange looking place.
The neighbors are trying to have the place torn down right now since apparently a lot of kids play around there and it’s dangerous. Oh yeah and it brings the market value of our property down by having such a awful sight nearby.
We heard the guy had to take care of his sick parent or something and just never came back. I can’t imagine just walking away from your own property and letting it fall apart like that. Can you?

September 19, 2006 at 6:10 pmThe house next to ours has been vacant for well over a year now. It’s allegedly on the market, but the story behind the sale is a sketchy one. But considering the history of the families who lived in the houses, maybe they’re all better off.:)

September 25, 2006 at 2:37 amActually I heard that water from the hills above the house finally ran through the property. The owner gave up trying to fix the problem in the 80’s and just left… The town has added a storm drain just this month, but the house is never the less ruined and VERY creepy…
