I must draw the line

You all know I’m a completely pathetic romantic. I love romance and my heart beats rapidly just witnessing a long glance between two people. Movies like Brokeback Mountain and Say Anything… just make me swoon like a schoolgirl. Alas I have realized I have my limits, my limits are drawn at romance novels.

I like novels with romance in them but the ones with He caressed my breast and I was eager for his manhood just makes me cringe. Hell I just cringed writing that. I think it’s just too over-the-top for me and just a bit too descriptive. Sure you can talk about the yearning and the passion but I don’t need to know about his manhood thank you…it just doesn’t do it for me.

The kind of romance I like is the real kind: the clumsy, the humorous, the disruptive like in the book I’m reading now Something Borrowed where she “accidentally” sleeps with her best friend’s fiancé and falls in love with him. There is nothing convenient about it and it’s even sometimes a very painful kind of romance. This guy isn’t just sweeping her off her feet to make love to her all night long but in fact they are sneaking around to have quickies all while she hopes he breaks off his engagement.

So these audio cds I got are just making my stomach turn and I’ve even fast-forwarded through some of the lovemaking. If you like romance novels you’ll probably like A Kiss Remembered and I probably would have liked it enough if it didn’t have him “standing back to admire her perfect figure because in the real world he’s usually too busy pulling off her jeans to admire much of anything.

LOL I love Sandra Brown.. I know unrealistic but… if you can scan by some of the really over the top stuff there are usually the same things that you were talking about, the painful real moments of love lost, shaded by some touching moments between two people. The Hero’s making mistakes and being jealous… LOL

I do understand though some times the “Arching Manhood” stuff is even too much for me! 🙂

Although there is a HUGE market for that stuff out there LOL lots of women read it.. It is like Porn for Women! 😉

Yeah I realize I’m in the minority, there is a huge market for it for sure. If I’m going to read porn then I’m going to read Anais Nin or something similar…her stuff is Grade A with no cheesiness just blatant sex (ie. no making luuuuuurve).

Waaaahaha! Cheesy romance novels are fun to read when you’re on vacation on the beach. I really can’t imagine digging myself into one during my lunch break or anything. LOL
