Lyrics say it all

I love lyrics and so many of them really speak to me. I thought maybe I’d share some important lyrics in my life.

These were lyrics I used for my high school yearbook. It’s Melissa Etheridge’s Yes I Am:

I will stand firm in the tempest
I will ride destinys’ trail
To believe when the truth comes up empty
To hold and respect without fail

The song Mad World by Gary Jules from Donnie Darko makes me cry everytime I hear it. I think when I listen to it it brings me back to a really fragile age when the world just seemed too big for me and that I was swallowing me alive.

And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
These dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles it’s a very very
Mad world
Mad world

Then of course there is the song someone once said reminded them of me and I never forgot it. I was in high school and I felt like I was living a nightmare. This is Alanis Morissette’s Mary Jane:

Well it’s full speed baby
In the wrong direction
There’s a few more bruises
If that’s the way
You insist on heading
Please be honest Mary Jane
Are you happy

I can suffer but i have hope
i can fall but i can rise
i can exit but the door remains open
i can watch but i can also reflect
and when i want, everything connects…

the circle is the truth you are afraid of
you think you are lost, emprisonned…
    but you can fly

you think it’s a dead -end but this is THE lie
the truth : the connection, the completion
    the love, the hope
faith in “truth”, faith in life

you exist, there is an answer
    just open your eye

    truth never comes up empty
am i happy ? yes, if i choose to be
