A heartbreaking love story

I finally saw Brokeback Mountain and I fell in love with the couple Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal) and Ennis (Heath Ledger). One thing I heard a lot from those who saw the movie was how breathtaking the scenary was and they were right. The physical beauty of the landscapes in this movie definitely add to the beauty of the story. Thinking back the only times in the movie where the visual was really beautiful was when Jack and Ennis were on Brokeback Mountain together. Now I think maybe Ang Lee did that on purprose to show how truly special those times were for them in their life.

As far as comparing who did a better job Jack or Ennis I think it’s unfair to even attempt that. Jack and Ennis were very different characters and Ennis had a bigger role in the movie as well. The story revolved more around Ennis and watching this man of few words slowly break down throughout the movie. Jack was more outwardly emotional and willing to lay it on the line from day one. Hell Jack made the first move 😉

But I believe the real performance was how well they worked together. They had more passion in their scenes together and their scenes about each other than most heterosexual couples in movies ever have. Jack and Ennis had this one kiss after not seeing each other for I think a year or so and took me back it was so intense.

I thought I made it through the movie without crying. My heart was broken every moment they weren’t together and began to mend just a little whenever they met up at Brokeback Mountain again. I think a little part of me hoped they would find some way to make it work, just maybe, hey that’s the romantic in me. Then the very last scene came, I won’t tell you what it is, and that’s when I started to cry. The very last line and I just lost it.

I can only hope this movie opens up skeptics to the fact that there is love in so many different ways and when you love someone so deeply you just can’t ignore it without it tearing you apart. To see that finding a love with anyone that powerful is worth the sacrifice because a life without it is far too lonely.

[…] You all know I’m a completely pathetic romantic. I love romance and my heart beats rapidly just witnessing a long glance between two people. Movies like Brokeback Mountain and Say Anything… just make me swoon like a schoolgirl. Alas I have realized I have my limits, my limits are drawn at romance novels. […]
