To Be A Sports Fan

It must be hard knowing that a player you love and cheer on could up and abandon you. See this is why I’d rather just be a fan of a television show because even though it can be heartbreaking for a character to leave a show it’s almost never a slap in the face like Damon leaving the Red Sox for the Yankees.

How do you root on a player of your most beloved team knowing that you, a mere fan, are more dedicated than the players of the team itself? I mean it’s got to be tough pill to swallow, and I don’t mean that in a patronizing way, to realize that for the players it’s about their job above everything else.

To understand that the ones that are the most devoted to your team are the ones that have the least control over their future must be hard to come to terms with. Maybe that is why so often I’ve heard fans have rituals that they need to believe determine the outcome of each game because it makes them feel just a little more in power (ie. not changing your socks).

So I will just stick with CSI and Grey’s Anatomy. If Grissom ever walks off the show I will be heartbroken, distraught and troubled by the future of CSI: Crime Scene Investigator but I also know that unless he moves to CSI: Miami he won’t be a trader.

I like Grissom in CSI.. smart, intelligent and all! Don’t you think he will stick out like a sore thumb if he’s on CSI Miami instead? I just can’t imagine that.. Catherine, yes but not Grissom.

It would never happen, it was just a way of trying to explain my point. Although I bet many Sox fans thought no way Damon would leave and he wouldn’t fit in with the Yankees.
