Bah Humbug!

Now that I’m seeing X-mas stuff in every store and every other commercial is about X-mas I’ve officially gone into Scrooge mode. I can’t stand X-mas and it’s not because I was raised Jewish (well that is part of it) but I just don’t understand the need to start X-mas crap right after Halloween? Certainly waiting until after Thanksgiving would be more than enough right?

LOL I hear you about the Christmas after Halloween… I know why it is done though… They are trying to stimulate the Economy… If they have a million Christmas sales or put up Christmas decorations now then they might remind you when you are at a store or the mall to start your Xmas shopping early… If you start now you are generally going to spend more because it is spread out over time. It is real subliminal stuff. It is really great for the Stores even thought it annoys the rest of us…

We don’t go to church much & when we do, it’s a Unitarian Universalist church, that celebrates all of the worlds’ religions & all paths to spirituality. So, when Shelby was asking about Christmas this year, I told him about Jesus being born (and explained the word ‘Christ-Mass’), but also told him about all of the other religion’s winter holidays -and- told him that the best part about Christmas for me is how we all celebrate together, letting the people we love know that we love them.

Driving thru a neighboring town yesterday, they had put Christmas trees up at the tops of the streetlights, where they also have American flags flying. Shelby said that he thinks that Christmas is about America, now – about all of the things that are great about America. And, that’s what he’s going to celebrate this winter. 😀 (Even though I reminded him that Christmas is celebrated all around the world).

I, too, wish they didn’t have all of the holiday ads out, yet – but, we’re just going with the flow this year. We’ve already started shopping, and we’ve already started watching Christmas videotapes with the kids  We just keep reminding them what’s important – friends, family, love & how great it is to celebrate these things.
