In my opinion (having never breastfed or had a child at all) is by the time they start having teeth it's probably been too long. I'm thinking that by 2 or 3 it should just be a 'for comfort' thing and by 4 the mom should be helping the child towards more independent ways of finding comfort in their lives. I realize, though, that every parent knows their child & their child's abilities & needs more than I could ever possibly know them -but- I would hope that every parent also takes a strong look at their own motives when they go past a few years of age, though.
