Just say when

Here is an interesting thought to those of us who just seem to eat too…know when to say when.

I’m the worst at this. If I really REALLY paid attention to what I was eating and how much I truly believe it would make such a huge difference. How often do we keep eating past feeling full? How often do we eat too fast and never quite realize when we are full.

So here’s a suggestion to everyone (and myself):

  • When you eat, take your time and enjoy it
  • Drink lots and LOTS of water during your meal
  • You can almost always eat more later on if you are still hungry
  • Listen to your body and what it needs…pay closer attention
  • Try this and see how much it makes a difference…I am making the same attempt.

Great book about eating for your body, instead of for your emotions is ‘Diets Don’t Work’. I read it about 20 years ago & it really made a difference in my life for a while. I should go read it again…

Another tip that has been a big help to me has been putting down my fork between bites. I thought it was bogus until I tried it. Of course, I had to tie my hand down, it like had a mind of it’s own! But it did help. The key I learned was that it takes about 20 minutes for the appropriate hormones to circulate and reach your brain’s appetite-control mechanism after a moderate amount of food enters your stomach. So I found that by putting my fork down between bites and drinking lots of cold water (like ya’ll have written) that process happened and sure enough, a smaller meal did the trick. After about 20 minutes I wasn’t hungry. Now, only 60lbs to go give or take a twinkie 😉
