Give me the underdog anyday

I have always been someone that cheers on the underdog. So often there is the macho guy who gets all the girls and then a geeky guy who gets over looked…give me the geeky one please.

Some of my favorite underdogs:

jon_cryer3 Duckie from Pretty in Pink

Even though Andie didn’t really see it we all saw the love Duckie had for her. We saw the angst he felt for her and how he struggled with it through the whole movie. I know we were all supposed to love Blane but I adored Duckie. He truly loved her and always had. He’d been her best friend and was always there for her. Hell he serenaded her (sort of) in the music store…oh how I looooove that scene!!! I still wish she’d ended up with him.

c_noel Noel from Felicity

I’m still sad she always picked Ben over Noel. Noel loved her from day one and was always her friend. He was there for her to lean on him while Ben blew her off. Everytime she’d start to realize how wonderful Noel was Ben would come by and ruin everything. Poor Noel stood on the sidelines and loved her. It pained me to watch that and I know for sure I would have been a lot smarter than Felicity.

bryan Brian from My So-called Life

What a perfect example of the girl with 2 guys to choose from: one who’s the bad boy who ignores her and treats her badly and then the shy nerd who she doesn’t see as anything other than just a nerd.

a2 Ross from Friends

I’d go so far as to say Ross is the underdog of underdogs. Ross loved Rachel from afar for what…9 years or something. He tried many times over the few years they became close friends to get the nerve to say something but never could. Add on another 10 years or so after they’ve gotten together…broken up…slept together…had a baby…almost gotten together…she gets with Joey saga then end up together in the end.

Give me an underdog any day!

WOW! I have never read such a direct breakdown of this type
of character… Your insite on these guys is like an encyclopedia
definition of “underdog”. I know you didn’t spend days writing this, but it seems like it.

Well I could have added like 10 others but I wanted to keep it low key. Also all my love for Sara and Greg is for nothing really…nothing has happened between them at all.

Oh I so missed this post. This would actually be a pretty good TITMT Tuesday topic one day. I’m totally with you on ALL of these though so I’d have to say our lists would be pretty much the same.:)

Janet – The things I usually like in a guy on tv (the romantic side) is he has to be goofy, romantic, and waits in the wings forever for the girl he loves to love him back. I love the “love from afar” thing and the “unrequited love” too…it gets me so bad.

[…] get me wrong, I still adore my underdog and to be fair, often the bad boy is the underdog. I also love my sweet nerds like Noel Crane, […]
